Yemeni Citizens Call for Boycott of Al-Kuraimi Bank Over Imposed Fees on ATM Withdrawals

Yemeni citizens have expressed their rejection of the blackmail and exploitation policy practiced by Al-Kuraimi Islamic Microfinance Bank towards its customers in exchange for the services it provides to them, launching a wide local campaign calling for boycotting it. Al-Kuraimi Bank recently started imposing a commission on ATM withdrawals after this service used to be free. Bank customers posted pictures on their social media pages showing deductions from ATMs for each transaction. Customers confirmed that this deduction is new and did not happen before, expressing their rejection of the blackmail policy practiced by Al-Kuraimi Bank against them, pointing out that all the financial services provided by the bank are paid and not free like other banks. Thousands of Yemenis use Al-Kuraimi's ATM service to withdraw from their accounts, receive transfers, or even during deposit operations and sometimes sending money. Customers explained that previous deductions included financial transactions made through the Kuraimi Mobile application, which made many of them refrain from using the program due to various problems, most notably slowness due to continuous updates. Customers accused Al-Kuraimi Bank of exploiting their need for such services and imposing financial fees on them in order to profit and achieve higher revenues, pointing out that there are now many banks that provide the services that Al-Kuraimi Bank used to monopolize. Customers threatened to boycott Al-Kuraimi Bank if it does not review its policy in dealing with them and stop exploiting them, calling on everyone to participate in this campaign to achieve its goals of providing free financial services that they can benefit from.

Al-Kuraimi Bank issues important decisions causing great astonishment at this time
Al-Kuraimi Bank has imposed new fees on ATM withdrawals, after raising transfer commissions and setting a daily withdrawal limit.

Al-Kuraimi customers complained about the imposition of additional fees on ATM withdrawals, amounting to 200 riyals for each withdrawal, after reducing the daily withdrawal limit to 60,000 riyals in two steps, which means a deduction of 400 riyals when withdrawing the specified amount.

The bank justified, in one of its responses to public inquiries, through its official Facebook account, saying that "the current currency situation and the difficulty of providing the operational requirements of the ATM service, which include sound cash that can be used by the ATM and the commission allocated to it, are in exchange for the costs of providing the service and ensuring its continuity 24 hours a day, knowing that it is possible to withdraw for free from the same branch where the ATM is located or pay for purchases for free through the computer service."
